The Senior Building Operator will report to the Director of Building Operations.  This individual will provide critical support to onside building operators and related staff, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of building systems.  The role involves active participation in preventative maintenance programs, troubleshooting issues, overseeing contractors, and performing maintenance on HVAC equipment.  The successful candidate will also provide mentoring and guidance to staff, assist in capital operations planning, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and policies.  Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks across a diver portfolio of buildings are essential.

 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing operational support and guidance to onsite building operators and other team members across the organization.
  • Participating in the planning and execution of capital operations and building upgrades.
  • Maintaining an adequate stock of spare parts to minimize downtime on major equipment.
  • Monitoring and investigating utility anomalies to ensure optimal building performance.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable legislative requirements, internal policies, and operational practices.
  • Liaising professionally with tenants, contractors, and service providers.
  • Overseeing contractors and vendors, ensuring quality work and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving equipment malfunctions, focusing on HVAC systems and other critical building infrastructure.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Troubleshooting expertise with a focus on building systems, including HVAC, electrical, and mechanical equipment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks across a large portfolio of buildings.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders (tenants, contractors, vendors).
  • At least five (5) years of experience in commercial building operations or a related field.
  • Relevant technical certification or ticket (e.g., HVAC, electrical, mechanical, or building systems).
  • Analytical skills with a high attention to detail and the ability to analyze data to inform decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Experience in commercial building systems management is preferred.
  • Prior experience in energy management, sustainability programs, or building automation systems is considered an asset.
