Shipping - Material Handler - Pickering, ON

Reporting to the Warehouse Manager, the material handler ensures that warehouse duties are completed accurately, efficiently and in a timely manner for our customers.

The material handler will perform other related duties as requested by his immediate superior, all in accordance with internal procedures and policies.

Handling merchandise 80 %

• Load, unload, sort and move goods by hand or by using material handling equipment.
• Receive and retrieve products and verify all items and quantities required are present.
• Build and wrap pallets of products in preparation for receiving or shipping.
• Package goods (using strapping machine when necessary) for receiving or shipping.
• Pick boxes of accessories from the warehouse store and ensure that they are combined with the right orders.
• Apply shipping labels and documents to corresponding merchandise.
• Assist customers/carriers/couriers with proper loading of products and/or pallets.

Health & Safety 5%

• Be compliant with the standards and business procedures as well as enforcing the health and safety laws.
• Ensure that work areas and equipment are kept clean and organized at all times.

Other 15 %

• Participate in the annual inventory.
• Assist with other activities and duties when requested.
• Complete various reports.

• Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, reliability, integrity, cooperation and self-control.

• Demonstrate a positive attitude at work, even more so in a difficult situation, by maintaining calm and being stress resistant.

QUALIFICATIONS

·    High school diploma or vocational training.

• Excellent knowledge of English spoken and written.
• Experience operating an elevating platform order/stock picker.
• Lift truck experience is required with a valid license.
• A minimum of one year’s experience in a similar position.
• Experience with various RF scanners and wireless devices is an asset.
• Steel toe boots are a must.
• Being able to do repetitive tasks.
• Capable of working in an environment where the temperature varies
• Good physical endurance, being able to move goods regularly that are 60 lbs. and over.
