Swamper

Like being outside? Be a part of our team of Swampers! Under the direction of the Team Leader/Crew Manager, the seasonal Swamper will perform the following duties, with minimal damage to the tree and to the fruit, while maintaining safety standards

Duties and Responsibilities:

• The Swamper physically transports totes of cherries from the picker’s location to a bin loading area typically located at the end of the row of cherry trees. This involves many trips on foot, back and forth from the picker to the tractor and trailer.
• It is the Swamper’s responsibility to ensure that these cherries are safely and carefully transported to and placed into a bin (which is hauled to the packing plant by tractor). Every tote of cherries represents the hard work of the pickers and the product that consumers buy.
• The Swamper also is responsible for assisting the tractor driver to load empty bins on and off the trailer and to help distribute the empty totes to the pickers.

Qualifications

• Can work long hours
• Able to carry out repetitive motion tasks for long hours
• Energetic and in very good physical shape; must lift 20lbs from ground to tractor trailer
• Attention to detail
• Positive and good team player
• Good time keeping skills, including coming to work on time every day

Working Conditions

Applicants should be aware that:

• This is a farming environment, and days off may be extremely limited during our picking season.
• In July shifts will start 4 am and end at 3 pm; in August shifts will start 12 am and end 10 am
• Work hours are not calendar based but are dependent on crop maturity and weather.
• Hours per week are variable (up to 50 hrs)
• Applicants must be available from early July until early September.
• Work is conducted outside; it is advisable to be prepared for weather by wearing layers.
• All safety equipment (including head lamps for night picking will be provided to you).
