The primary responsibility of a Junior Learning Assistant is to support student learning by acting as an additional resource to students outside of regular class time. They will support MaKami’s vision of providing a positive learning environment for all students by providing one-on-one and group tutoring.
Major Accountabilities/Responsibilities (Including but not limited to the following):
- Providing students with educational support and effective study strategies
- Assisting with the ongoing development of tutoring resources to improve student learning
- Providing individualized and group tutoring and learning plans to students
- Following up on the students' learning progress and adjusting tutoring and learning plans
- Reviewing and creating training materials to increase effectiveness
- Assisting Lead Instructors
- Providing support to instructors to ensure the learning environment is conducive to students with special considerations
- Assisting with preparing for lessons by gathering materials or setting up equipment
- Providing support to Student Advisory Services Department
- Working collaboratively with the Strategic Academic Learning Team and tutee to develop a tutoring plan that fits the student’s individual needs
- Participate in tutor training and development sessions
- Assist in duties (e.g., marking assignments, creating tutoring materials) that are assigned by the Student Success Centre Supervisor
Required experience and qualifications:
- Qualified Registered Massage Therapist
- Experiences with assistive technology as an asset
- Experience teaching ESL students as an asset
- Passionate about motivating and empowering students to learn
- Able to both follow directions and work in a team
