MaKami College is seeking a highly motivated Payroll Assistant to join our HR team. This role ensures accurate and efficient monthly payroll processing, maintains employee data, and collaborates with HR and internal stakeholders. Responsibilities include managing employee records, auditing changes, overseeing document control, and supporting onboarding and offboarding. The role also involves becoming proficient in HRIS modules, providing HR metrics reports, and handling various HR administrative tasks with a focus on consistency and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities (Including but not limited to the following):
- Preparing and processing regular monthly payroll activities
- Ensuring accurate reviewing and tracking of key employee information (i.e. hours worked, overtime, vacation, time sheets, etc.)
- In coordination with payroll responsibilities, work closely with other HR roles and internal stakeholders to ensure the proper flow and maintenance of employee data
- Maintain employee records in Dayforce and electronic employee files
- Ensure employee changes are entered correctly and made on a timely basis
- Review and audit employee changes prior to payroll approvals and updates
- Maintaining a proper document control system
- Represent the HR team with onboarding and offboarding employees and ensure all related tasks are completed as required.
- Work towards becoming a subject matter expert in maintaining and updating our related HRIS modules
- Administer and distribute regular HR metrics reporting to internal stakeholders
- Responsible for other key administrative tasks related to all areas of HR with an emphasis on consistency, efficiency, and continuous improvement (i.e. recruitment, payroll, benefits, policy work, performance management, etc.)
Required experience and qualifications:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance or a related field
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification is an asset.
- Comprehensive understanding of payroll legislation, employment standards and payroll accounting.
- A minimum of 2 years of direct, hands-on experience with DayforceHCM
- Previous Human Resources experience is an asset
- Experience with payroll processes in a daycare setting is highly valued
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, payroll and accounting software
