Lead Hand
The opportunity:
The Lead Hand is responsible for maintaining high cleaning Standard
in preparation for daily operation and service delivery.
In this role, you will:
- Demonstrate strong support and commitment to the mission and core values of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and the YMCA in Canada.
- Demonstrate strong support and commitment to serving the membership, facility users and all program participants of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka.
- Prepare the facility for operation by adhering to YMCA SAM Standards, YMCA cleaning practices and protocols, industry best practices and local operating standards and schedules.
- Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of equipment, products, procedures and standards involved keeping the facility clean.
- Adherence to all provincial and federal legislation relevant to job description.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of mechanical and operating systems. To ensure uninterrupted service, address all maintenance issues as identified by the Supervisor, Cleaning & Maintenance or General Manager.
- Communicate service issues and deficiencies with senior daytime staff on a daily basis. Communicate all serious system malfunctions that could adversely affect operations in a timely manner.
- Provide training and coaching of staff to ensure understanding of expectations and positive performance outcomes.
- Ensure that all Health and Safety requirements, including but not limited to WHMIS, Employee Health and Safety, etc. are observed & followed by cleaning staff.
- Ensure safety and security of YMCA staff and members proactively and while on duty.
- Respond to all member issues or concerns in a respectful and courteous manner.
You bring:
- Grade 12 Education
- 3 years of facility cleaning experience
- Strong knowledge of cleaning procedures, standards & practices
- Willingness to participate in mandated training to be completed before or shortly after
commencement of work including:

- Health & Safety Awareness Training
- Bill 168 (Violence & Harassment in the Workplace) Training
- PCI Compliance
- WHMIS
- Child Safeguarding Training
