HOUSEKEEPING AIDE

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: DIRECTOR OF HOUSEKEEPING & LAUNDRY

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
The Housekeeping Aide, under the direction and supervision of the Director of Housekeeping and Laundry Services, is responsible for all duties required to ensure the cleanliness of the entire facility. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
In accordance with established policies of Albright Manor, the Housekeeping Aide will:

  • Replenish all supplies in the bathrooms, nursing stations and kitchenettes;
  • Conduct daily pick up of garbage from designated areas and transport to the disposal area;
  • Take boxes, cans, newspapers etc to recycle room;
  • Transport stocked linen carts up to the linen room daily and ensure sufficient linens are available at all times;
  • Clean all bathrooms;
  • Clean all resident rooms.  Spot checking on a daily basis and thoroughly cleaning of allotted rooms for that day;
  • Clean tub rooms including keeping cupboard shelves neat and tidy;
  • Clean utility rooms daily including sink, floor, basin and keeping shelves tidy, including laundry and garbage chute rooms and recycling room;
  • Wet mop dining room floors after breakfast and lunch;
  • Wet mop kitchenettes after breakfast and lunch;
  • Clean lounges and activity areas;
  • Clean treatment rooms daily;
  • Clean Nursing Station, staff bathroom, locker room and staff room;
  • Vacuum all hallways on a daily basis;
  • Sanitize vacant rooms as soon as possible after room becomes vacant; including notifying maintenance if walls require painting or patching and ensuring floor is buffed;
  • Spot clean stains on carpets as soon as possible;
  • Carpet extract where needed and/or as directed by the Director of Housekeeping and Laundry;
  • Keep janitor’s closets and carts neat and tidy and fully stocked;
  • Buff resident rooms as required and as requested by the Director of Housekeeping and laundry Services;
  • Assist with resident moves as requested by the Director of Housekeeping and Laundry Services;
  • Assist with the removal and return of valances and privacy curtains for laundering;
  • Ensure all bottles are WHMIS labelled;
  • Adhere to the Departmental Policies and Procedures as well as Albright Manor’s general policies and procedures;
  • Comply with all aspects of the Manor’s Health and Safety programs including: the WHMIS Program, the Infection Control Program, the Waste Management Program, the First Aid Program, the Safe Handling of Residents Program, the Early Return to Work Program, and all Safe Operating Practices specific to the Properties/Environmental Services Department; and report all unsafe or unhealthy conditions, all accidents/illness; cooperate in health care treatment(s) and in all aspects of the early return to work/modified program; seek out first aid and comply with all work safety requirements;
  • Perform the required physical demands as outlined in the physical demands analysis;
  • Perform any other duties or tasks required as directed by the Director of Housekeeping and Laundry Services.
  • **Note: In the absence of the Director of Housekeeping and Laundry Services the Housekeeping designate is responsible for the department under the Direction of the CEO.

    ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
  • Exposure to pets, plants, perfumes, cleaning agents, dust, etc.
  • Unpredictable resident behaviour;
  • Exposure to communicable diseases;
  • Emotional impact in dealing with residents with deteriorating health;

    QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Grade 12 graduate;
  • Several years of related experience in a similar setting;
  • Familiar with the WHMIS regulations;
  • Good rapport with the elderly;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Must have working knowledge of housekeeping work routines, procedures and duties;
  • Must have a working knowledge of vacuums, carpet extractors, floor machines, auto scrubbers and any other piece of equipment in the department;
  • Ability to meet the required physical demands of the job as outlined in the physical demands analysis.

    PROFICIENCY PERIOD: 3 Months (Full Time) and 450 Hours (Part Time)
