ABOUT THIS ROLE
Burlington Hydro Inc. (“BHI”) is seeking a System Control Supervisor to join our Operations team. Reporting to the Director of Network Operations, this position is responsible for monitoring, controlling, and directing the safe and efficient operation of the electrical distribution system. This includes dispatching work crews and preparing and directing switching procedures and operations. This is an on-site position located at 1340 Brant Street, Burlington.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare records and reports on the operation of the electrical distribution system and coordinate system operations with Hydro One and neighbouring utilities
- Supervise a team of electrical operators, coordinating and scheduling Control Room activities
- Complete and/or approve daily timesheets with accuracy
- Lead/respond to customer concerns, including research and follow-ups on power outages
- Become fully conversant with the Sub Transmission and Distribution Systems
- Responsible for compliance with applicable legislation
- Provide safety leadership ensuring safe, efficient, and timely completion of all required tasks in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations, the Electrical Utility Safety Rules, and Company Policies & Procedures; enforced as required
- Ensure positive labour relations through proper administration of the Collective Agreement and company policies
- Provide direction, including establishing goals and training requirements, performance evaluations, and coaching
- Collaborate with other departments such as Communications, Engineering, Construction and Maintenance Operations, and Customer Service, as well as possible shared services territories of other LDC’s to ensure exceptional service delivery to customers
- Assist in preparing a department budget, maintenance duties, field work and drawing verification
- Assist with the department records system, including updating the GIS mapping, OMS and SCADA systems
- All other duties as assigned
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Post-secondary education from a college or university in a related field (Electrical Engineer or Electrical Technician/Technologist); a business diploma would be considered an asset
- Completion of the MEARIE Group’s Journeyperson Electrical Operator Certificate or recognized equivalent
- Certified in the Ontario Utility Work Protection Code, or willingness and ability to acquire this certification
- A minimum of 5 years of related experience in utility operations with increasing levels of responsibilities, demonstrated supervisory experience, including managing staff in a unionized work environment
- Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class ‘G’ driver’s license with a clean abstract
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, preferably in a unionized environment
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines
- Strong relationship-building skills, effective communication, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office application (Word, Access, Outlook, Excel), as well as System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Customer Information System (CIS), Geographic Information System (GIS) and AutoCAD
- Knowledge of organizational practices as applied to the analysis/application of programs, policies, collective agreements and operational needs
- Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, and regulations
