Based in Seattle, WA, the Director, Accounting will oversee the Accounting function for Coast Hotels USA Inc. and its operating hotels. In this role, the Director will lead the Financial Management and Internal Audit functions for Coast Hotels USA Inc., ensuring alignment with the company’s short- and long-term goals. As a strategic partner to senior leadership, they will ensure financial reporting and accounting services uphold Coast Hotels’ Mission, Vision, and Brand Promise, comply with U.S. laws and regulations, and drive operational efficiencies, customer satisfaction, and profitability.
- Creates and implements a departmental plan and measurable objectives for the US based Accounting and Reporting Services that supports the Company’s overall business strategy.

Communicates goals to others, including team members, other Leaders, etc.

Collaborates with others to identify and analyze business requirements and the implications for the organization; identifies gaps and implements agreed upon solutions.

Communicates change initiatives and monitors implementation, clearly articulating the rationale for change and impacts on the hotels, department, and operations.

Considers the product/service delivered and maintaining the product/service relative to the Coast brand and image.

Attends industry and/or professional events or conferences to maintain industry/professional knowledge and network with industry peers.
Operational Leadership:
- Establishes clear plans, targets and budgets to support accounting and reporting excellence, such as the development of specifications for financial reporting, internal controls and audit requirements, budgeting and forecasting, and performing company-wide capacity planning.
- Understands what is going on in the operation, forecasts and proactively address needs and situations.
- Monitors the quality of work and provides feedback on the degree to which operational standards are met, i.e., financial reporting and audit standards and controls
- Adheres to departmental budgets and prioritizes resource allocations appropriately
- Communicates and monitors company policies and practices and how they relate to accounting and reporting services; establishes and communicates clear objectives, targets, and operational quality standards for the financial reporting requirements, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Focuses on short and long-term priorities, maintaining a big picture perspective
- Ensures departmental compliance to relevant legislation and regulations (i.e., WCB, employment standards, collective agreements)
Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Designation , with minimum 4 years of related experience, plus 2 years of experience leading others
- Bachelor's degree with a major in business administration or related field or equivalent combination of experience and education
- Detailed knowledge of United States Taxation and Payroll, FASB, GAAP, and Accounting and Financial Reporting processing methods and Financial technologies
- Advanced knowledge of Workday, Dayforce, HMS and SCS by Infor and ideAs or other Hotel Property Management Systems
- Understanding of legislation and regulations (i.e., Fair Labour Standards Act (FLSA), Labour Laws, Workers Compensation Insurance, Collective Agreement) as they apply to own area
- Aware of and understands how all areas of the business interact and how own area impacts and is impacted by other areas
- Excellent communication (written, verbal English and listening), interpersonal, and customer service skills
- Ability to lead and motivate others
- Strong problem and conflict resolution skills to resolve issues within a functional area
- Experienced in forecasting and budgeting processes
- Proven aptitude for accounting trends and new technologies
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
