PT Rent Bank Worker (Nanaimo)

ROLE PURPOSE

The Rent Bank role is to manage the application process and assess qualifications for loans.  This includes working in collaboration with The Program Manager in administering, recording, and maintaining statistics around loans and their recoupment.  The Worker is also responsible for referring inquiries to other services in the community, and for following up with loan recipients to support repayment.

Monday, Wednesday to Friday, 1000 - 1600

KEY ACCOUNTABILITES

1. Address all inquiries related to the Rent Bank.
2. Reviewing application forms to assess qualifications for a loan.
3. Engage with Rent Bank committee for final approval of loans.
4. Review assessment forms and contacting applicants for follow-up.
5. Provide appropriate referrals to other Connective programs, or community services.
6. Processing loan disbursement and repayment plans with Program Manager and following up with participants as needed.
7. Working with clients on maintaining housing stability i.e., budgeting and assistance applying for other programming/resources.
8. Connecting and liaising with Landlords as needed
9. Maintaining program data and statistics related to the Rent Bank
10. Adhere to professional guidelines with respect to client confidentiality.
11. Attending appropriate staff training sessions.
12. Attend Provincial Rent Bank training and forums.
13. Ensure program guidelines are followed.
14. Maintain monthly program expenses and account for all money spent.
15. Meet administration requirements and timelines for reporting.

EXPERINCE AND SKILLS

1. post-secondary training: mental health certificate, degree in human services, criminology, social work, community support worker diploma or a related field and/or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience is required. 

2. Combined knowledge and experience about community services that support and assist individuals.

3. The Rent Bank Case Worker models healthy communication skills and conflict resolution to clients, co-workers, and employers. 

4. He/she/they has good team skills; has a sense of commitment; the ability to collaborate; is accountable; responsible; and has a flexible approach to working hours and to the range of tasks undertaken.

WORKING CHALLENGES

There can be exposure to adverse environmental working conditions.  These can include verbal and physical aggression, which require safety precautions and a calm perspective in approaching the situation. This position will also require visits to active job sites where any number of hazards may exist. Safety mindedness and vigilant observation are a necessity.

There are guidelines and policies in place to support the employee in the workplace.

REQUIREMENTS

1. Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check
2. Current Emergency First Aid Certificate or Level 1 First Aid
3. Class 5 BC driver’s license (preferred)
4. Naloxone Training (preferred)
5. Knowledge of community resources
6. Successful reference check
7. Successful educational verification

COMPENSATION

As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $27.54 up to $31.61 per hour. Plus, benefits enrollment as per the Collective Agreement.
