SUMMARY:
The Airworthiness Manager is reporting to the Director, Engineering and Head of the Designed Approval Organization (DAO), and is responsible for implementing, operating and maintaining the Airworthiness Control System (ACS), leading the Continuing Airworthiness program and managing the Technical Publications.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform, on behalf of the Head to the DAO, the day-to-day administration of the DAO, ensuring up to date DAO practices and procedures and delegate coverage.
- Ensure that all aircraft designs, modifications, and maintenance activities follow the airworthiness requirements and guidance set forth by Transport Canada, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and other relevant aviation authorities.
- Maintain strong working relationships with regulatory authorities and act as the primary point of contact for airworthiness matters. Stay current with evolving regulations and communicate changes and updates to the organization.
- Liaise with external stakeholders, such as customers, and suppliers, to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the aircraft in service
- Aid with the creation, maintenance, and organization of airworthiness documentation, including certification reports, compliance records.
- Conduct risk assessments related to continuing airworthiness issues and work with the engineering team to develop and implement mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate and conduct internal audits and inspections to assess and verify that internal agreed airworthiness processes are followed. Manage corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Oversee the preparation, review and revision of technical publications, including aircraft flight manuals, maintenance manuals, service bulletins and illustrated pats catalogue.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and compliance throughout the organization by providing training, guidance, and support to employees.
- Prepare and present airworthiness reports to senior management, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Build and lead a team of airworthiness and technical publication professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and training as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or an aerospace related program or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Extensive experience in airworthiness certification, preferably in the civil aviation industry, with a minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience.
- In-depth knowledge of Transport Canada and international airworthiness regulations and standards.
- Strong understanding of aircraft type certification process, the corrective action process and Design Approval Organization procedures.
- Experience in interacting with national and foreign certification authorities.
- Experience in managing airworthiness programs and processes for aircraft and associated systems.
- 8-10 years of technical management experience with increasing responsibility.
- Familiarity with aircraft design, operation, testing, and certification.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to cultivate a collaborative and empowering culture.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks under pressure.
