ROLE OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Logistics Director, the Logistics Team Lead is a dual role, responsible for overseeing the Shipping, Receiving, and Material Handling shop floor team [the “Logistic Teams”], as well as rolling up their sleeves and being hands-on as needed.
This role will be accountable for leading, motivating, and managing the day-to-day performance of the Shipper and Receivers. As a leader, the Logistics Team Lead will be a reliable resource for the Team to turn to for guidance, and they will set a positive example for the Team in relation to taking initiative, carrying out tasks, being accountable, and ensuring and maintaining a healthy team environment and culture.
This role will also work closely with the Logistics Office and will be accountable for the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of incoming receipts, outgoing shipments, and inventories.
This is an onsite role, located at our warehouse in Richmond Hill, Ontario.
HIGHLIGHTS OF WHAT YOU WILL DO
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Oversight of all shop floor Shipping, Receiving employees and all underlying activities
- Participates in logistic planning activities to ensure efficient and effective daily, weekly, monthly execution and focus on corporate objectives
- Assigns daily shipping, receiving tasks with a focus on optimizing resource usage
- Is a key resource to the logistics team to explain tasks, provide clarity as necessary, and suggest best practices for execution
- Supervises and coordinate safe, compliant execution of all logistics shop floor activities
- Reviews execution and completion of logistic activities to ensure accuracy and timeliness and to assess employee performance
- Assists the Logistics Director with hiring recommendations, training, performance feedback, performance reviews, escalating employee issues as necessary, recommended disciplinary actions
- Training other warehouse staff on new initiatives and launching of new process
- Leads shop floor team huddles when necessary to plan, organize, address execution matters
- Guides, motivates, and develops team within HR policy boundaries
- Investigates and resolves operational problems, identifying root causes and provides corrective and preventative actions through clear communication with the Logistics Director
- Ensures forklift safety compliance, including on-boarding capabilities testing, daily inspections and training
- Ensures effective daily shift transition, by ensuring personnel are aware of respective tasks and objectives
Non-supervisory Responsibilities
- Contributes to logistics team efforts (i.e., Shipping and Receiving) by executing underlying efforts once all resources are tasked i.e. picking an order and loading a truck using warehouse equipment such as a forklift and Raymond reach
- With the assistance of the Logistics Director, ensures that the areas of responsibility are properly organized, staffed, skilled and directed
- Collaborates with the Logistics Director and Logistics Manager in establishing, refining, and developing logistics process and work instructions and related standard operating procedures
- Optimize usage of space and plan overall space management
- Completes paperwork using ERP system to accurate control shipments and inventory.
- Works with Courier applications and systems to print labels and coordinate pickups.
- Communicates with 3PL carriers to coordinate pickups for daily shipments.
- Assists in coordinating and executing physical inventory verification, including cycle count programs and year end inventory execution
- Oversees maintenance of material-handling equipment by ensuring pre-usage inspections are performed, repair requisitions are documented and actioned and Logistics Director is informed of all underlying matters
- Communicates effectively and efficiently with internal teams
- Help maintain a safe and clean work environment at all times
- Other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
- 3-5 years forklift experience in a shipping and receiving environment
- Forklift Certification
- Narrow Aisle Forklift Certification
- Basic math skills for counting goods and related exercises
- Good computers skills with the ability to work with ERP systems (Global Shop), email, etc. and related peripheral skills (scanners, etc.)
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Self-motivated and takes initiative
- Resourceful and presents solutions to problems
- Able to effectively communicate, delegating tasks and setting clear expectations
- Able to deal with multiple priorities and competing demands in a fast-paced environment
