Role overview:

The Corrugate Prototype Technician (2nd shift) is responsible for preparing and cutting materials for corrugate displays. Working with the Structural Design team.

The incumbent will also be responsible for conducting tests on prototypes to ensure products pass requirements and compiling the results in reports occasionally.  As well, the 2nd Shift Corrugate Prototype Technician will be responsible for managing and maintaining inventory levels in the department.

This role is primarily on-site, with some flexibility at our Scarborough location.

This role will be on the evening shift (2:00–10:00 PM) but will follow a daytime schedule of 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM for approximately 3 months, or until the individual can perform their tasks independently.

Highlights of What You Will Do

  • Operates prototype-making machine to cut samples according to files sent by Structural Designers.
  • Communicate to the Structural Designers, Sales Team, and Shipping department when prototypes are ready for test assembly by the Structural Designer.
  • Prints out the Customer or Production label sticker and ensures that the corresponding Structural Designer will sign the Production Sample Label Sticker.
  • Monitors, replenishes and maintains an inventory of all prototype-making materials.
  • Checks the completeness of printed or plain samples that will be shipped out or transferred to Production.
  • Assist the permanent prototype department by cutting prototype templates
  • Updates status related to prototype-making on the company-approved job tracking system.
  • Organizes product samples inside the Prototype Room.
  • Organizes singed-cut samples as per the established procedure.
  • Liaise with the Designer, Sales Team and Shipping department to ensure key deadlines are met for prototype sample(s)
  • Record video assembly instructions when required.
  • Adhering to and maintaining department design standards and processes
  • Ensuring the prototype area is neat and orderly

What You’ll Need to be Successful:

  • Previous experience with corrugated material, assembly and manufacturing
  • Previous experience with plastics material, assembly and manufacturing
  • Previous experience in a prototyping or fabricating environment
  • Above average computer literacy
  • Some knowledge of SolidWorks, Artios CAD, and Adobe Illustrator is an asset
  • Knowledge of Kongsberg XL24 Cutting Table machine and operation
  • Ability to effectively manage and organize multiple competing priorities
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to work collaboratively
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to think outside of the box
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Excellent organization skills; able to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
