Registered Nurse
Under the direction of the Director of Care (D.O.C.) provides nursing services to residents and supervises Registered Practical Nurses and non-registered staff. As a member of the Care Team assists in the development and implementation of resident care plans and regularly assesses individual clinical status. Actively participates in the meetings and committees of the Nursing Department to ensure the provision of optimal standards of nursing care.
The Registered Nurse-In-Charge is responsible and accountable for the operation of the Home and the welfare of the residents in the absence of the Executive Director or his designate.
Full-Time Permanent night position
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Dispenses medications to residents as prescribed by physicians and in accordance with accepted professional practice.
- Provides direct care to residents as required.
- Gives all treatments as prescribed.
- Regularly assesses the status of each resident and communicates the current status to the D.O.C. and/or physicians.
- Assists the D.O.C. in maintaining the policies and standards of the Home.
- Models exemplary nursing leadership behavior; communicates and reinforces expectations to Registered Practical Nurses and Personal Support Workers regarding appropriate workplace performance and conduct
- Provides training, support, and mentorship to Nursing Students newly hired Nursing team members.
- Prepares shift assignments for nursing staff and directly supervises nursing staff in the performance of their duties.
- Maintains medical records in accordance with acceptable standards.
- Records any change in resident status, in Point Click Care utilizing acceptable professional language and format.
- Prepares an end-of-shift report describing the resident status, incidents, medical orders, and any other information necessary to ensure continuity of care and intra-shift communications.
- Maintains the nursing station in acceptable order.
- Ensures the privacy, dignity, and confidentiality of the residents and the Home.
- Respect and follow the proper lines of authority when reporting events or handling disputes while utilizing the process of appeal if necessary.
- Maintains unit nursing supplies and orders accordingly.
- Ensures adequate staffing for each shift, replacing staff who report as not available for scheduled shifts.
- In the absence of the DOC, may perform administrative duties as required.
- Checks and co-signs physician's orders daily as necessary including quarterly reviews.
- Maintains knowledge of and familiarity with all nursing policies and procedures utilized in the Home as well as all relevant administrative policies and procedures.
- Assists the Multidisciplinary Team in developing and implementing individual care programs and supervises these programs on a daily basis.
- Ensures the safety and security of the facility during the shift and communicates problems to the appropriate person.
- Demonstrates willingness to cooperate with colleagues, subordinates, and members of other departments.
- Demonstrates consideration towards residents, visitors, and volunteers.
- Participates in in-services and continuing education, maintaining personal and professional skills.
- Attends/reviews core competency in-services as required by legislation.
- Ensures the implementation of Quality Management by conducting or guiding quality improvement, risk management, and occupational health and safety activities.
- Works with Staff Development to ensure the orientation, staff development, and continuing education of staff.
- Performs regular written performance appraisals of non-registered nursing staff as per the Home’s policy or more often if required.
- Ensures a safe and healthy environment for staff and residents. Helps prevent the spread of infections to residents, staff, visiting family members, and the community.
- Ensures each resident’s monthly weight and blood pressure are taken and documented.
- Performs audits as scheduled.
- Participates in RAI/MDS practice requirements.
- Performs any other responsibilities necessary for the provision of high-quality nursing care and the smooth operation of the Home.
