Senior Legal Counsel
Be a member of an award-winning legal team at Infrastructure Ontario and support transformative projects for the Province.
The Transaction Legal team provides high-quality and commercially-minded legal support for the successful procurement and execution of large and complex construction projects. The projects are delivered using a variety of contract models including progressive design build, design-bid-build, construction management, and public-private partnership (P3).
What You Will Do:
- Provide legal support to the Major Projects team in the delivery of major infrastructure construction projects for the Province. Projects include subways, hospitals, courthouses, correctional facilities, and landmark development projects.
- Provide high quality legal advice, including legal drafting, verbal and written advice, memos and briefing notes, researching legal matters, and explaining complex legal issues to business clients.
- Independently manage projects, proactively address issues, take initiative to manage risks, and propose commercially minded solutions.
- Be the lead lawyer working on several projects simultaneously which are at different stages of a project lifecycle.
- Work on integrated project teams alongside engineers, architects, project managers, finance experts, and procurement specialists.
- Represent Infrastructure Ontario in communications with external and government stakeholders.
- Manage external counsel effectively to ensure efficient and high-quality service.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, policies, procedures, and directives that apply to Infrastructure Ontario.
- Assume other legal duties as assigned.
What We Are Looking For:
- Education, Knowledge and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Law or Juris Doctorate degree and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Experience practicing law in one or more of the following areas: infrastructure, construction, procurement, corporate/commercial, project finance, or commercial real estate.
- Skills and Personal Attributes:
- Highly competent, diligent, analytical, and detail-oriented.
- Ability to independently manage projects, proactively address issues, take initiative to manage risks, and propose commercially-minded solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain complex legal issues in a clear manner to non-legal audiences.
- Ability to collaborate effectively as a team member and represent and negotiate on behalf of Infrastructure Ontario in a variety of forums.
- Ability to simultaneously work on numerous files in a fast-paced and multi-tasking environment with changing priorities.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders, deliverables, and processes through different stages of a project (planning, procurement, negotiation, closing, and implementation).

The hiring range for this position is $125,200 – $187,800, with a corresponding job level of L2. The exact compensation will align based on the skills, knowledge and experience of the candidate.
