Every day, our 150 lifeguards and swimming instructors help provide our clients with safe and high-quality swimming lessons. The YMCAs of Quebec offer one of the largest selections of swimming lessons and aquatic activities in the province, tailored to all needs and all types of swimmers.

Your Role

Reporting to the Aquatic Activities Coordination team, the candidate's primary role is to ensure the safety of swimmers and teach swimming techniques and aquatic safety to people of all ages.

The Challenge We Offer You

  • Inform your manager of any damaged equipment (life jackets, toys, cables, etc.).
  • Ensure the safety of participants at all times.
  • Prevent risks and hazards that may occur in the pool during lessons.
  • Plan sessions to help participants achieve their goals.
  • Teach children and/or adults with enthusiasm, following the course descriptions and group levels.
  • Continuously evaluate and communicate participants' progress while providing feedback.
  • Complete progress reports for each participant.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that encourages interaction among participants.
  • Help build participants' confidence and self-esteem.
  • Adhere to YMCA policies and procedures regarding the protection of children and vulnerable individuals.
  • Understand and integrate the value of philanthropy into the role and the organization, participating in the annual campaign and/or other fundraising events.

The Person We Are Looking For

  • Hold a valid National Lifeguard or Bronze Cross certification from the Lifesaving Society.
  • Hold a valid CPR-AED Level C or General First Aid certification.
  • Hold a Lifesaving Society or YMCA Swimming Instructor certification.
  • Understand and support the values and mission of the YMCA.
  • Be able to work in both official languages.
  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be punctual.
  • Have no criminal record related to the position.
