Every day, more than 1,200 people work with the YMCAs of Québec network, providing a variety of services that create positive change in people’s lives. 

Every day, our 150 lifeguards and swimming instructors help provide safe and high-quality swimming lessons for our members. The YMCAs of Québec offer one of the largest selections of swimming lessons and aquatic activities in the province, catering to all needs and all types of swimmers.

Your Role

Reporting to the Aquatic Activities Coordination team, the lifeguard is responsible for the safety and well-being of all YMCA members, participants, and staff using the aquatic facilities. They ensure the health and safety of all swimmers, prevent accidents and injuries, and provide emergency response and intervention within the YMCA center. The lifeguard plays a vital role in fostering the physical, mental, and emotional development of participants in a safe environment.

The Challenge We Offer You

  • Supervise swimmers in the pool to ensure compliance with regulations and provide assistance in case of difficulty.
  • Ensure the safety of all pool users through prevention and intervention as needed.
  • Perform chlorine tests and follow opening and closing procedures.
  • Complete reports related to work shifts.
  • Inform the supervisor of any damaged equipment (life jackets, toys, cables, etc.).
  • Adhere to YMCA policies and procedures regarding the protection of children and vulnerable individuals.
  • Understand and integrate the value of philanthropy into the role.

The Person We Are Looking For

  • Hold a valid National Lifeguard certification from the Lifesaving Society.
  • Hold a valid CPR-AED Level C certification (adults, children, and infants) or be willing to obtain it.
  • Hold a valid Lifesaving Instructor certification from the Lifesaving Society or YMCA (an asset).
  • Hold a valid First Aid certification (an asset).
  • Support and uphold the values and mission of the YMCA.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be punctual and responsible.
  • Have no criminal record related to the position.
