The Opportunity

McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated individual to join our newly formed Community and Resort Development team.  This team is dedicated to creating places that bring joy in the Canadian Rockies and the Calgary region.  Our current portfolio includes visitor accommodation, ski resorts, multi-family sites, commercial developments, subdivisions, and remote, boutique lodging.  We have projects in Canmore, Banff National Park, Kananaskis, Fernie, Revelstoke and a host of other amazing places.

We are looked for an experienced Civil Engineer or Civil Engineering Technologist who can report to either our Canmore or Calgary Offices.  This individual would be able to individually execute a development site servicing plan (multi-family site, visitor accommodation, commercial etc) or small subdivision design from conception to construction completion. This role is ideal for a quality communicator who appreciates variety and unique challenges.  

We are open to individuals who enjoy a hybrid schedule. We prefer that the successful candidate would be willing to travel to the Canmore or Calgary office 2-4 times per month to promote strong bonds with the team, but you can come as often as you’d like.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Civil design in a wide variety of environments and jurisdictions.  Grading, stormwater, deep utilities, and surface works
  • Leading design correspondence and communications with the client and project team
  • Writing proposals, managing budgets, and coordinating staff
  • Cost estimates, contractor engagement, and creating specifications
  • Providing oversight for field services and contract administration

What You’ll Bring

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering or Drafting Technology and 8+ years of relevant experience or Bachelor in Civil Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Registration as an AScT, P.Eng or other relevant technical accreditation
  • Strong communication and problem solving skills

What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $92,000 - $137,000  per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate and will accommodate for more senior candidates.
