McElhanney Ltd. has a new opportunity for a Structural Engineer to enhance our growing team in Courtenay, BC. What You’ll Be Doing

  • Providing design, engineering, and site inspections for structural projects
  • Low to mid-rise residential / commercial / institutional / industrial building design using wood, steel, concrete, and masonry
  • Shallow foundation design for buildings including pre-engineered steel buildings
  • Specialty services including modular building design, structural glazing, and light gauge steel framing
  • Civil structures such as retaining walls, utility structures, etc.
  • Project management of multi-disciplinary projects, including managing structural assignments locally.
  • Construction field reviews and building assessments
  • Proposal preparation and business development
  • Supervising and mentoring junior staff 

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum 6+ years’ experience with building structural design
  • Registration in good standing as a P.Eng. in British Columbia
  • Proven delivery of structural projects for public and private clients
  • Strong knowledge & experience with National and Provincial Building Codes including those for steel (CAN/CSA S16), concrete (CAN/CSA A23.3), masonry (CAN/CSA S304.1) wood (CAN/CSA 086)
  • Proficiency with structural engineering software, such as SAFE, ETABS, RISA, and Woodworks
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal as well as a positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Strong people skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse range of individuals
  • Project management and proposal writing experience
  • Strong organizational skills and flexibility to manage changing priorities on short notice
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel; capable of quickly learning new software programs
  • Aluminum design (CAN/CSA S157) and bridge design (CAN/CSA S6) would be an asset

What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $95,000 - $130,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
