As McElhanney advances our Strategy 2030, we are excited to continue building our leadership team with a strong market focus. With two Market Sector Vice Presidents already in place for Energy & Resources and Transportation & Transit, we are now recruiting for our third and final Market Sector Vice President role for Cities & Communities.

Reporting to our Executive Vice President, the Market Sector Vice President – Cities & Communities, will lead the strategic direction, growth, and performance of this market across Western Canada. This is a unique opportunity to lead and elevate how McElhanney delivers integrated, people-centered solutions to the communities we serve. 

The successful candidate would be based out of any of our 30+ locations across Western Canada with the ability for frequent travel across our offices as needed.

What You’ll be doing:
As the Market Sector Vice President, you will work closely with our Executive Leadership Team, operational leaders, Technical Service Groups (TSG's, and Key Client Managers to guide strategic growth and execution within this market. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Planning
    • Develop and implement a multi-year market strategy aligned with corporate goals.
    • Monitor trends, economic forecasts, and emerging community needs to drive market positioning and innovation.
    • Collaborate with executive and operational leaders to identify strategic growth opportunities, potential mergers or acquisitions, and talent alignment.

  • Business Development & Marketing
    • Lead the market’s business development strategy, identifying new opportunities and strengthening key partnerships.
    • Sponsor major pursuits and long-term contract negotiations; partner with proposal specialists to position McElhanney competitively.
    • Enhance McElhanney’s brand through thought leadership, industry participation, and visibility in the community.
  • Client Relationship Management
    • Build and maintain trusted relationships with public and private sector clients.
    • Sponsor client engagement plans and strategic feedback loops through McElhanney’s Client Management Program.
    • Ensure high standards of client service delivery in collaboration with technical and operational leaders.
  • Financial Oversight
    • Lead financial planning and forecasting for the market sector including revenue, direct margin, and strategic pricing strategies.
    • Monitor KPIs including market lock-up, margin improvement, and backlog management.
    • Collaborate with regional operations to ensure optimal resource allocation and portfolio balance.
  • People & Organizational Influence
    • Lead through influence across a matrixed environment; guide operational, technical, and client teams toward common goals.
    • Champion McElhanney’s culture of safety, inclusion, and collaboration.
    • Mentor and coach emerging leaders, support strategic hires, and foster talent development within the market.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in a multidisciplinary consulting or infrastructure-related environment.
  • Proven experience in strategic leadership, business development, and financial oversight.
  • Professional accreditation in engineering, planning, geomatics, or related discipline.
  • Deep understanding of municipal and community infrastructure sectors, with a strong network of client and industry relationships.
  • Experience advising senior leadership and engaging stakeholders at the executive level.

What Can We Offer You?
The salary range for this position is $180,000 to $250,000 per annum along with the opportunity to participate in our generous Performance Bonus Plan and to become a shareholder in an employee-owned companyMcElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
