In this role, you’ll bring technical excellence to projects that enhance drinking water systems and protect the environment through innovative wastewater solutions. You will work closely with local leaders and stakeholders to provide economical, practical, and sustainable solutions tailored to their unique needs. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary and forward-thinking team committed to improving public health and environmental outcomes while fostering long-term partnerships with the clients we serve. 

This role is designated as a safety-sensitive position and completion of a pre-employment drug & alcohol and fitness for work testing is required.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Shaping our clients’ future water and wastewater systems by evaluating, selecting, and engineering process mechanical solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Turning concepts into reality by developing innovative designs through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Keeping abreast of new technologies and methodologies to ensure we work on exciting projects and keep our competitive advantage. 
  • Getting into the details by preparing and reviewing documents in various project phases including equipment sizing, facility layouts, mass balance, hydraulic analysis, diagrams and details.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to coordinate electrical, mechanical, structural, civil and other teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Building our business by preparing effective proposals, liaising with clients, and finding opportunities to leverage our inter-disciplinary teams to provide value-added services.
  • Mentoring the next generation of junior technical and professional staff.

What You'll Bring

  • A desire to work on a variety of projects—from rural upgrades to complex urban systems.
  • 10+ years of experience in rural and urban water and wastewater infrastructure including treatment facilities with strong knowledge of process mechanical systems.
  • Registration in good standing as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in Alberta or British Columbia, or eligibility to obtain immediately.
  • Experience with relevant Provincial standards, regulations, and approval processes for all types of utilities and water/wastewater facilities.
  • Experience with business development, proposal writing, and winning new projects. 
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary team project delivery, as well as alternative delivery models.
  • Successful track record of maintaining satisfied clients and pursuing infrastructure projects.
  • Understanding of Development Site Servicing Plan requirements and processes is an asset.

What Can We Offer You?

The base salary range for this position is $120,000 - $170,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
