The Opportunity 

McElhanney – Recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, has an exciting opportunity for a Marine Structural Engineer to join our team. If you have 5 to 10+ years of previous marine structural engineering experience and are looking to work on a diverse range of structural engineering assignments, this is an excellent growth opportunity for you.

This role is designated as a safety-sensitive position and completion of a pre-employment drug & alcohol and fitness for work testing is required.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide design, engineering, site inspections, and construction support for marine structural projects, including structures such as piers, wharfs, trestles, ramps, dolphins, floating structures comprising of steel, concrete, and/or timber materials
  • Lead projects as Engineer of Record and Project Manager
  • Assist with proposal preparation and business development
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff 

What You’ll Bring

  • 5-10+ years of related design experience in marine structures
  • Registration in good standing as a P.Eng. in British Columbia
  • Proven delivery of marine structural projects for public and private clients. Experience with floating structures and aluminum structures will be considered an asset
  • Knowledge & experience with Canadian codes for steel, concrete and aluminum design, and familiarity with international marine codes and standards.
  • Proficiency with structural engineering software, including SAP2000
  • Strong communication  and people skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals and clients
  • Project management and proposal writing experience
  • Strong organizational skills and flexibility to manage priorities
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel; capable of quickly learning new software programs

What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $92,000 - $137,000  per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
