BC Pavilion Corporation (PavCo), owner and operator of BC Place Stadium and the Vancouver Convention Centre, is hiring a Building Technician to join the Facilities Management team at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

As our Building Technician, you'll be more than a fix-it person. You’ll be a craftsperson, a problem solver, and someone who takes care of the details that affect how guests and coworkers experience the space. Every day will be a little different, and that’s the beauty of it.

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Facilities, the Building Technician is very much a team player, a great communicator and a friendly face.  

 

Shifts:   Tuesday – Saturday or Sunday - Thursday

Hours:  7am to 3pm with some flexibility

The hourly rate for this position starts at $28.59

 

What You’ll Do:

Imagine starting your day with a walk-through: a hallway carpet that needs replacing, a wall that requires a drywall patch and a fresh coat of paint, and a door whose hinge has seen better days.  

 

  • Perform fit and finish work, carpet replacement, dry walling, and painting.
  • Perform inspections and minor maintenance on mobile equipment such as forklifts, scissor and boom lifts, tow motors, and maintenance vehicles.
  • Submit recommendations to the manager regarding replacement of sub-standard components and progressive upgrades worn or obsolete components.
  • Maintain and adjust doors and hardware including electric and manual operators, panic hardware, mortise cassettes, door closers, hold-open devices, glass door repairs, repairs to fit and finish, millwork, and other carpentry duties as required.
  • Collaborate with contractors and suppliers to maintain and oversee a Schlage Primus Everest high security master key system.
  • Direct and/or complete client-initiated re-keying as well as in-house lock and key requests.
  • Liaise with engineering team and contractors as necessary or complete minor repairs as needed in front and back of house spaces.
  • Pressure washing.

 

Who You Are:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a maintenance or construction-related environment.
  • Certification as a Red Seal tradesperson, completion of a recognized Building Maintenance program, or professional experience in trades such as carpentry, millwrighting, or automotive repair.
  • Proven ability to safely operate hand and power tools, work confidently at heights, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Familiarity with locksmithing or institutional key systems is considered a strong asset.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license is required; certification in forklift and aerial platform operation is an asset.
