SUMMARY OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to Family and Intimate Partner Violence (FIPV) / Safe Centre Manager, the child protection worker provides for the protection of children as defined by the Child & Family Services Act.  The role of the child protection worker is to assess the risks and strengths of families in the community and to support families in building their capacities to care for their children.  As a member of the Family and Intimate Partner Violence team, the focus of this position will be providing investigation/assessment services to children and families where protection concerns exist and specifically including domestic & family violence cases. 

The key responsibilities of this role are on assessing risk, well being and planning for permanency through strong collaboration with families, our agency and community partners. This position will require the successful candidate to assess and investigate cases that meet eligibility for service, follow the legislation and Ministry Standards and use the Signs of Safety Framework and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion practices. It will also require the flexibility to undertake ongoing responsibilities to support the service level requirements of the Family and Intimate Partner Violence team.  This position will include working off-site at the Safe Centre of Peel, located in Brampton and will require flexible work hours (see details below).

QUALIFICATIONS:

•  BSW or MSW degree from a recognized university and at least two years of related experience in a child protection role OR a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university in a related field, and at least two years of related experience in a child protection role.
•  A class "G" driver's license and daily access to a vehicle are required.
•  Experience in and a knowledge base related to domestic and family violence will be an asset.

 REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

•  Excellent skills in child welfare case management
•  Superior skills and experience in clinical assessment, counseling and crisis intervention
•  Knowledge of Intimate Partner Violence & Impacts on Children
•  Good verbal and written communication skills, particularly with recordings and reports
•  Knowledge of ongoing services and child in care issues 
•  Good computer skills
•  Proficiency in the French Language is considered an asset
•  Excellent collaboration and partnership

 HOURS OF WORK:

•  9am-5pm, Monday to Friday
•  Working hours may vary and applicants must be flexible to work outside of standard office hours.
