Intern Veterinarian
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The primary function of the Intern Veterinarian is to work alongside the specialist or specialists in the referral hospital in diagnosing and treating patients to deepen and enrichen the Intern’s veterinary education with hands-on experience and explore the specialties. The Intern Veterinarian will learn how to provide high-quality service in practice and some advanced specialty training through a one-year clinical training program that emphasizes mentorship, supervision, and didactic experiences.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
The position of Intern Veterinarian requires a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or similar degree from an accredited veterinary school satisfactory for provincial licensing.

REPORTING:
The Intern Veterinarian's primary reporting responsibility is to the Medical Director, Intern Supervisor, Practice or Office Manager.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The Intern Veterinarian’s responsibilities will be based on your current level of experience and limitations while complying with the level of education and provincial regulations.
Duties will be delegated by the supervising veterinarian and may include, but are not limited to, shadowing veterinarians and technicians in their duties, performing physical examinations, sample collection, preparation of surgical patients, drug calculations and prescription preparation, performing surgical procedures, performing medical procedures, discussing diagnostic results, inpatient and outpatient animal care (restraint, running lab work, preparing lab samples for outside laboratories, assisting with radiographs, patient hygiene and feeding, assisting veterinarians and technicians during examinations, appointments and procedures), keeping detailed and accurate records and client care and communication.
