VMAC is seeking to fill one full-time, permanent, Product Support Engineer reporting directly to the Director of Engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate within the Engineering department and across all departments to achieve targets set by the leadership team to meet strategic goals of the company and realize business growth.
- Liaise with internal and external customers and suppliers.
- Utilize project planning tools and organization methods to specify project milestones and estimate timelines to complete tasks.
- Apply advanced design techniques to develop and maintain core components and product assemblies.
- Be proficient in engineering principles and design tools including traditional theory, manual calculation solutions and software solutions (i.e., 3D Modeling, Drafting, FEA and Numerical Modeling).
- Implement knowledge of fabrication methods and manufacturing processes to bolster the robustness of products as well as efficiency and productivity within the facility.
- Ensure full engineering practices, compliance with recognized standards and testing procedures are adhered to.
- Employ thorough analysis methodology and strong analytical decision-making in all aspects of engineering activities.
- Analyzes designs through failure modes effects analysis (FMEA).
- Demonstrates that designs meet requirements through analysis, development, and validation processes.
- Implements engineering changes- ECN - Engineering Change Notice, ECR - Engineering Change Request, ECO - Engineering Change Order.
- Ensures designs meet serviceability and backward compatibility requirements.
- Works with electrical engineering to ensure controls and system functionality integrates seamlessly with mechanical systems and meets scope and design intent.
- Collaborates on the design and analysis of mechanical components and systems and supports the implementation into production.
- Perform root cause analysis on components faults and customer issues.
- Actively lead or participates in cost and warranty reduction initiatives as applicable.
- Provide top level mechanical tech support as required to assist Quality Control and Technical
- Serve as the mechanical engineering/technical POC for customer feedback and issues.
- Host and take part in component and sub-system design reviews.
- Work with Purchasing on sourcing of components and materials for existing and new products.
- Actively engage with Sales and Marketing teams and customers to improve product value.
- Support verification conformity of outsourced components and parts against specifications and drawings for first article inspection as requested.
- Assemble prototypes of new products. Must be able to turn wrenches.
- Use analytical and experimental methods to build technical knowledge about designated package products, and where necessary to improve these components.
- Review warranty issues, analyze and document as requested.
- Create and secure technical documentation using SolidWorks, MS Office, EPDM & M2M, and other applications as applicable.
- Create, manage, and uphold the VMAC drawing standard.
- Create ECN’s, VTR’s, Tech bulletins, standards, procedures, manuals and keep accurate records on all projects.
- May require scheduling field visits to understand or correct issue.
- Production liaison for manufacturing.
Qualifications/ Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or an advanced diploma in mechanical engineering technology.
- Minimum two (2) years of relevant industry work experience.
- Good interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
- SolidWorks/3D solid modelling and analysis.
- GD&T and specification development capability is an asset
- Experience and in-depth knowledge of design for a wide range of high-volume production processes: die casting, injection molding, high speed CNC machining, stamping, heat treatment, metal coatings etc. either through suppliers or inhouse production capabilities.
