We are seeking highly motivated, values-driven team players to become part of our Health and Fitness team as a Wellness Coach.

As a Wellness Coach, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, value-based health and wellness customer service, programs and services to members. You must be a proactive relationship builder who uses initiative to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.

Location: Peter Gilgan Family YMCA, 410 Rebecca Street, Oakville, Ontario

Hours of work: Weekend shifts with a potential for additional weekday/weeknight coverages and support

PLEASE NOTE Our building is open Saturday 7am-7pm and Sunday 8am-6pm

Salary & Benefits:

  • Rate of pay: $17.20 per hour (note: $24.00 when teaching fitness classes/personal training, if applicable)

Responsibilities:

  • Welcome and assist members on the wellness floor.
  • Conduct wellness Orientations for new members to assist with Retention strategies set by Team Leader/Supervisor
  • Understand how every piece of fitness equipment works, including which body parts they target, and demonstrate and cue correctly.
  • Build meaningful, long-lasting relationships with members through purposeful interactions and take initiative in creating ways to connect with them.
  • Conduct retention calls or emails to members at risk of leaving, as directed by management.
  • Communicate with members and clients in a timely manner to confirm appointments, follow up after sessions, and check in on their progress to maintain positive relationships.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the department and across other departments as needed.
  • Be involved in Departmental and Organization Fundraising and team building opportunities
  • Monitor the wellness floor, engaging with members, coaching them on the safe use of equipment, and helping them set and achieve their personal fitness goals.
  • Promote current YMCA programming, including promotions, special events, and personal training, confidently to members.
  • Adhere to policies regarding health and safety, as well as child protection.
  • Actively attend and participate in team meetings.
  • Take time to clean and tidy wellness floor at various times during shift.
  • Report any equipment or safety issues to Team Lead /Supervisor and communicate confidently with members about alternate exercise options.
  • Maintain a strong customer service and organizational focus in all aspects of the role.

Requirements:

  • Technical knowledge and experience related to exercise, program design and delivery, fitness, and lifestyle change management.
  • Experience in a health club, community center, or fitness environment.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • YMCA Individual Conditioning Level 2 or equivalent certification.
  • YMCA Leadership Certification in Group and/or Aquatic Fitness (preferred).
  • Experience working as a fitness instructor, coach, or personal trainer is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft programs and membership/fitness tracking software is an asset.
  • Personal Trainer Certification is an asset but not mandatory for the coaching role.
  • Current certification or willingness to become certified in PT/Group Fitness instruction is an asset.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Current Police Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
