As the Supervisor of Inclusionary Supports, you will provide leadership, guidance, and resources to educators to ensure that all children with complex needs are fully integrated into our child care programs. Additionally, you’ll work with the summer day camp team to foster an inclusive environment for children with both identified and unidentified special needs. This role is vital in ensuring that YMCA of Oakville child care and summer camp programs celebrate every child’s uniqueness, empowering them to participate fully in our character-building, values-based programming. You will also lead the inclusion team to ensure seamless support and growth for all involved.

Location: YMCA of Oakville
 
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 42.5 hours per week with rotational shifts between 7:00 am to 6:00 pm (15-18 month maternity leave contract, starting in May 2025)

Responsibilities

Inclusion of Children with Special Needs (Licensed Child Care, PA Day, Holiday Programs & Summer Camp)

⦁ Conduct intake meetings with families and create child profiles, ensuring proper identification of supports needed.
⦁ Participate in service coordination meetings with families, educators, Halton Region and school staff to tailor support for each child.
⦁ Ensure inclusion strategies and documentation align across all YMCA sites, including preparing child profiles for PA days, holiday programs, and summer camp.
⦁ Work with program teams to implement engaging, developmentally appropriate activities for children with complex needs.
⦁ Oversee the intake process for families requiring  enhanced  support, ensuring effective matching of children with enhanced support staff.
⦁ Reviews inclusion binders, ensuring all forms comply with the Ministry of Education’s Child Care and Early Years Act.

Staff Support & Development

⦁ Lead training sessions for staff on inclusive practices and provide on-site coaching and mentoring.
⦁ Collaborate with outside agencies to coordinate professional development opportunities.
⦁ Supervise and support Inclusion Team Leaders and Enhanced Support Staff, providing coaching, professional development, and performance feedback to ensure the seamless integration of children in both child care and summer camp settings.
⦁ Coordinate resources and strategies to maintain consistency and high-quality inclusion practices between child care programs and summer camp.
⦁ Conduct regular site visits to assess progress, provide feedback, and document support strategies.

Relationship Building & Communication

⦁ Foster strong relationships with staff, families, and children to ensure a collaborative, supportive environment.
⦁ Role model YMCA core values and share best practices to celebrate success across programs.
⦁ Effectively resolve challenges, provide feedback, and support the department’s goals through strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Requirements
⦁ College Diploma or University Degree in a related field (i.e. Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development).
⦁ A minimum of 3 years of experience working with children and families, particularly those with developmental delays and complex needs, with a focus on family-centered practices.
⦁ Strong knowledge of relevant acts, legislation, and frameworks, including but not limited to: the Child and Family Services Act, the Child Care and Early Years Act, and How Does Learning Happen? Framework.
⦁ 1-2 years of leadership experience, with proven ability to guide and support teams.
⦁ Strong facilitation skills for training and development of staff.
⦁ Excellent team collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
⦁ Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
⦁ Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities.
⦁ A thorough understanding of child development for children ages 6 weeks to 17 years.
⦁ Ability to influence others without direct authority and manage time efficiently.
⦁ A demonstrated passion for and commitment to the YMCA’s mission, vision, and core values.
⦁ Must have a valid Ontario Driver’s License.
⦁ Current First Aid and CPR certificate. 
⦁ Provide a Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Check (dated within the past 6 months).
