Trade Compliance Specialist, Consulting

Are you a customs compliance expert with a passion for solving complex trade challenges? We’re looking for a seasoned professional to join our team and help clients navigate a range of customs-related issues — from HS classification and origin determination to appeals and duty drawback claims.
This role focuses on delivering timely, cost-effective consulting and advisory services while identifying opportunities to grow client relationships. You'll be expected to meet monthly revenue targets by promoting value-added services to both new and existing clients.
Key Responsibilities (Supervisory/Materials/Information)
- Provide technical advisory services and document preparation for clients which includes, but is not limited to the following: HS classification, FTA analysis, valuation assessments, commodity tax analysis, duty deferral assistance and duty drawbacks, customs verification and audit assistance, blanket amends / refunds, apply for national customs rulings, etc.
- Identify sales opportunities and upsell consulting services with new and existing clients. Maintain sales pipeline. Prepare and submit billing information as per standard procedures. Make sales presentations.
- Maintain positive working relationship with client by responding to inquiries in a timely manner.
- Maintain positive working relationships with coworkers and internal clients while working collaboratively on projects, responding to inquiries, etc. Provide technical guidance to colleagues.
Education and Experience
- Completion of High School or Equivalent
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation (must maintain)
- Certified Trade Compliance Specialist (CTCS) designation (asset)
- US Certified Customs Specialist (asset)
- CBSA Professional status (asset)
- 5 - 7 years of proven customs industry-related experience, including a minimum of 2 years classification experience
- Consulting experience (preferred)

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as solid presentation skills, in order to present complex information to a variety of contacts both internally and externally.
- Entrepreneurial and self-motivated attitude with the ability to attract and retain clients to generate additional revenues.
- Expert knowledge of customs and relevant legislation as it pertains to importing and exporting.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Excellent research, problem-solving, judgement and analytical skills with a high attention to detail in order to research and review complex information.
- Proficient in MS Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and standard computer applications in order to prepare professional communications and presentation material.
- Able to operate standard business machines including photocopiers, scanners, faxes, telephones, printers, etc.
- Valid passport

- Concentration is required in balancing several tasks at one time.
- May be required to sit at desk or in vehicle for prolonged periods of time.

- May need to carry presentation materials, equipment, etc.
- Must be able to travel using a variety of methods throughout Canada and the United States.
