Maintenance Technician (M1)
Location: ALS Geochemistry, Yellowknife
Reports to: Branch Manager
About the Position:
As the Maintenance Technician this role will consist primarily of performing repairs and maintenance to the building and operational equipment.
Specific Responsibilities
- Assist and monitor trades and contractors;
- General building maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, ceiling tiles and painting;
- General preparation; equipment inspection, maintenance and repair;
- General grounds keeping, plumbing and carpentry work;
- Keep all maintenance logbook and service records up to date;
- Maintain adequate stock of equipment parts;
- Must be available as needed for emergency call-outs;
- Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
- Local delivery and pick up as needed;
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong mechanical aptitude;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Strong command of the English language;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- Excellent problem solving skills;
- Ability to work under general supervision;
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
Required Qualifications
- Grade 12 diploma;
- Valid Provincial Class 5 drivers license with clean driving history (abstracts required);
- Some experience in general building repairs and operations is preferred;
- Experience working with plumbing, carpentry, drywall and/or painting will be an asset;
- Experience working with sample prep equipment an asset;
- Forklift certificate or experience will be considered an asset (on site certification will be required)
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds;
- Extensive walking or movement, bending, kneeling, and working with machines;
- Comfortable in environments with high noise levels.
