Opportunity: 

 

McElhanney is currently seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our team as a Survey/Geomatics Technologist in Cranbrook. This is a great opportunity for a dedicated individual who is looking to gain hands-on surveying experience with a multidisciplinary team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a team of Land Surveyors and Survey Technologists as well as Civil, Geotechnical and Structural Engineers and technologists on a variety of legal, topographic, engineering and construction projects. Within this role, you will primarily provide field services using conventional survey methods but also have the opportunity to work with Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS, a.k.a. drones), LiDAR (statics and mobile, terrestrial and aerial), bathymetric systems, and more, as well as complete office processing and deliverable production. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Field crew and prepare accurate notes, sketches and field data 
  • Conduct conventional and GPS field surveys 
  • Interpret field data to create accurate survey drawings and legal plans. This will include downloading and editing field data, interpreting field notes and sketches, and processing conventional and GNSS data 
  • Interpret Architectural and Engineering drawings for layout and as-built survey purposes 
  • Liaising with Project Managers and clients regarding project scope and enquiries 
  • Implementing quality assurance on all field returns and office deliverables 

 

Skills and Attributes for Success: 

  • Physically fit, able to lift heavy equipment, willing to work in various environmental conditions with varied terrain, able to work in wildlife populated areas, and willing to work in remote areas for extended periods and varied hours.  
  • Knowledge of survey and boundary calculation, geodetic coordinate systems and map projections  
  • Basic understanding of the BC Land Titles system  
  • Strong communication skills  
  • Adherence to corporate safety policies and reporting  
  • Ability to work independently to complete tasks and meet deadlines in a timely manner. 

 

Qualifications:  

  • Two-year technical diploma in geomatics or civil engineering with up to 5 years of previous experience in a similar role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience  
  • Experience with Microsurvey, AutoCAD Civil3D, Trimble Business Centre and Trimble Access is a strong asset.   
  • Experience with RPAS systems including basic and advanced pilot license is a strong asset. 
  • Valid driver’s license required.

McElhanney offers competitive compensation ranging from $30-44 per hour, tailored to match individual qualifications. The base salary/wage range listed in the job posting reflects the necessary qualifications and experience for the position, with final compensation determined by the successful candidate’s qualifications.
