SUMMARY
The Driver Trainer completes the onboarding of new drivers, continuous development of current drivers, monitoring compliance, and coaching drivers to improve behaviour.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for all required training and orientation of new and current drivers at the terminal.
- Interview and road test prospective drivers and provide input to supervisor on hiring.
- Train prospective Erb employees for upgrading their licences and any required retraining.
- Conduct safety meetings on selected topics according to driver meeting schedule set out by supervisor.
- Assist in log auditing and driver record maintenance in accordance with U.S. file requirements.
- Coaching of DriveCam events with drivers.
- Aid in recruitment functions including terminal job fairs and industry truck shows.
- Ensure supply of new driver material is adequate and assemble when required.
- Assist with the compliance of the driver files.
- Responsible to check drivers licences as required.
- Assist in compliance of Company Policies and Federal\Provincial Regulations regarding drivers.
- Replace Driver Supervisor on Health & Safety Committee when necessary.
- Provide training in company policy, procedures for drivers, yard, and dock staff.
- Provides hands-on training in advanced applications, training and testing preparations in vehicle inspection, skills/ manoeuvres, defensive driving, and road driving skills required to meet and or exceed requirements needed to successfully pass the Driver Certification Program.
- All other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum (3) three years of experience as a driver (local or long distance) and additional one (1) year of experience in a trainer position or similar duties.
- Candidate will have a valid AZ license and a general understanding of transportation laws both in Canada and USA.
- Excellent people skills while dealing with drivers on a regular basis.
- Computer experience required (AS400, Microsoft Office).
- Able to obtain M.T.O. signing authority.
- Fleet Driver Trainer Certification will be required.
- Forklift Instructor Certification an asset.
- Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Hours of work may vary according to training schedules, performance appraisals, and road-testing applicants.
- Overtime may be required.
